ELECTRIC  WHEELCHAIR & SCOOTER TRAYS

Wheelchair Services are able to supply a range of Wheelchair/Scooter Trays which enable Powerchairs and Scooters to be carried at the back of a vehicle. The weight ranges covered are up to 80kg load, 110kg load and 150kg load.

The heavy scooter or powerchair model is fitted to a purpose built support frame, dependent on the vehicle, mounted directly to the vehicle’s sub frame. When not in use it folds up vertically against the lifting post. The tray is lowered to allow the loading of the powerchair or scooter, and then raised to transport level with the push of a button.

This model can have the additional feature of swinging away from the vehicle to allow easy access to the rear door of a hatch or station wagon. This is achieved by simply pulling a release lever. There is a similar simple lock/release mechanism on the vertical position.

Removal of two locking pins can allow the removal of the whole tray assembly for storage if required.

For a medium weight scooter there is the option of a single mesh tray, particularly suitable for sedan vehicles with a boot, which again can be raised and locked in a vertical position in order to have access to boot space. The loading of the scooter and raising the tray for transport is again done at the touch of a button. A support frame is again mounted directly into the vehicle sub frame which will enable the removal of the unit by taking out the locking pins.

The light version can cover the folded powerchair, with batteries removed, or a light weight scooter. It can also be used, by increasing the width of the tray, where there is a fixed frame chair which requires too mush space inside the vehicle, and is awkward in shape/weight for a carer to load. The provision of fold up ramps gives easy loading. The frame construction is totally aluminium and, depending on chair/scooter weight, may be fitted directly into an existing tow bar.

Tie downs are necessary for all loads for transport safety.

The fitting of the tray will vary slightly with the make/model of the vehicle. A kit can be purchase for fitting locally, but the information on the vehicle will be required in order that the sub frame is constructed to suit the vehicle.
